The first-level discipline doctoral station of Business Administration was officially approved in 2012, with its predecessor being the second-level discipline doctoral station of Enterprise Management established in 2003. Business Administration is the key construction discipline of Sichuan Province and the former Ministry of Railways. After 15 years of rapid development, this discipline has now gathered high-level and diverse outstanding talents in related fields with backgrounds at home and abroad, has formed a strong team with distinctive characteristics, and thus has held an important position in Southwest China in promoting discipline development and talents training. The team members include one double-appointed academician, four Cheung Kong Scholars, one winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, five experts of Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of the Ministry of Education (MOE), eight experts of 100-Talents Program of Sichuan Province.
In 2009, under the leadership of Professor Jia Jianmin, their team successfully declared “Research on Behavioral Decision-making Theory and Its Application in Management” Innovation Team of MOE. This is the first and only managerial innovation team of MOE in western universities. Afterwards, the team successfully applied for the Major Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)— “Research on Service Participant Behavior and Service Strategy in Network Environment” (2010) and “Research on Customer Insight and Marketing Strategy in the Context of Big Data” (2014). This is also the only school in the western region that has been authorized a Major Project of NSFC.
In recent years, the team members have undertaken more than 60 projects including 863, National Major Projects (Ministry of Science and Technology), NSFC and Provincial and Ministerial Funds, with a funding of nearly 30 million yuan. The research outcomes have been published in top or important domestic and foreign academic journals, such as Operation Research, Psychological Science, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Government Information Quarterly.
This discipline has formed its own characteristics and advantages in market science and behavior, behavioral decision-making and risk management, operation and service management, corporate strategy and organizational behavior, accounting and corporate finance, and related fields and directions.
The discipline Business Administration is qualified to grant PhD degree and hold post-doctoral mobile station. It has established three research platforms — Sichuan Provincial Key Laboratory for Service Science and Innovation, 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for Services and Strategies Based on Big Data and 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for International Development of China High-speed Railyway” as well as two teaching platforms — “Training Model Innovation Experimental Zone for International, Engineering, Differentiated Managerial Talents” and “Sichuan Provincial Experimental Teaching Center”. Furthermore, through forming strategic alliance with China Telecom Sichuan Branch, Chengdu Railway Bureau, Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital, IBM and other enterprises and institutions, it has established big data research center. Due to the uniqueness of the data, it has attracted high attention and active participation from scholars and well-known universities at home and abroad including Tsinghua University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, Karlstad University, etc.
Students possess a solid theoretical foundation and systematic expertise in corporate strategic management, organizational behavior, marketing, accounting, finance and investment, operation and service management, innovation and entrepreneurship, etc. Besides, students can correctly use the theories and methods related to Business Administration to solve the theoretical and practical issues related to Business Administration at all levels of society, industry, and enterprises. Moreover, students develop a rigorous and realistic scientific attitude and style, have an innovative and realistic spirit and good scientific research ethics, and possess integrated quality and innovative potential to independently carry on scientific research in this field. Also, Students are expected to have acceptable foreign language skills and computer application ability.
